Prized Comment from Reader, Reviewer, Author Kate Dolan

Last week I was a guest on Cheryl Malandrinos Books, Products, and More. Guesting on other blogs is a wonderful opportunity to meet more readers and authors and network with people who love to read. Cheryl put up the synopsis and excerpt from Sunshine Boulevard. I happily received many wonderful comments on this post. One commenter was author Kate Dolan. She wrote--

"Cool story idea and I love the cover! This is one of the rare stories where I can believe amateurs actually get involved in an investigation. Great set up!" Kate Dolan

You can bet that comment made my day!

Sunshine Boulevard is a mystery, but the main character is not a private investigator or detective or police officer. Nope, not even a forensic specialist. He is Jim Hart, a snowbird who lives in Florida in the winter and volunteers as a First Responder in his retirement community. He is truly an amateur who works with the police and the medical examiner to discover who or what is killing the seniors in his community.

To read more reviews of Sunshine Boulevard, go to the J Q Rose author site.

And yes, every time I receive a nice comment from a reader, I have a lift in my step all day. It makes me want to write and share another story with my readers so they can be entertained and escape from reality for awhile. Thanks for reading.

The Votes are IN!

The voters were 3 to 1 in favor of reading stand alone books versus reading a book in a series. I promised to vote after the results were in...I am still torn, but I must vote for a stand alone book too. I like to have all the ends wrapped up and then start a new kind of book. Seriously the only exception would be the Mitford series. I love, love, love Jan Karon's style of story telling and fell in love with all of her characters in that small town of Mitford.

Thank you for taking the time to comment and vote on the poll. It was fun to see how it turned out.

Hmmmm...maybe I should have a poll on whether people like to vote in polls or if they just irritate readers....??

Now go have a cup of coffee/tea and read a great book. Any suggestions?

Series or Stand Alone Book?

Which do you prefer to read? A book in a series or a stand alone book?

I must admit how much I loved Jan Karon's Mitford Series. I embraced the characters and couldn't wait to dive back into Mitford and into the lives of the people (yes, I felt they were real people not just characters). I also enjoyed Janet Evanovich's over-the-top mystery series with Stephanie Plum. No, I haven't gotten hooked on reading Harry Potter's adventures, but I know readers could hardly stand to wait for the next book. Joselyn Vaughn's sweet romance stories and W S Gager's noir mystery series with Mitch Malone keep me coming back for more too.

I enjoy a good book not in a series too. The Help and the Kite Runner are stand alone books. The story is told and wrapped up in the ending. I was satisfied.

To be fair, I must cast my vote since I am asking you, dear readers, to vote for one or the other.  But I don't want to prejudice the vote, so I will hold my vote until the results are in next week.

Please vote in the poll at the right side of the page and leave a comment. You may want to share with us what book(s) persuaded you to vote this way.
