Tips on How NOT to Do FB Live Videos by J.Q. Rose

Hello and welcome to the Focused on Story Blog with J.Q. Rose.

Yes, that photo of me at the right side of the page is taken from a FB Live video I did this month. I can't believe I said that. "I did a FB Live video." And not just one, but several. I took Georgia Lee London's FB Live Challenge to learn how.
JQ doing a FB Live video.

What a valuable week of learning about the equipment needed--you probably have everything you need on your Smart Phone or Laptop--a microphone and webcam and you're ready to go.

FB Live videos are very casual and off-the-cuff. I made some notes on a topic and talked to visitors on my J.Q. Rose author page. Click here to visit me when you have a minute and like my page. Thank you.

I know, I know. I hear you asking, "Why learn how to do a video?"  The simple answer is," That's what is and will be grabbing people's attention and keeping it now and in the future." But the best part about FB Live is the interaction in real time I can have with my visitors. (I haven't quite mastered talking on the video and acknowledging my visitors at the same time....yet.) I'm amazed at how many more views I receive with a video. Even more than I get from a meme like an inspirational quote or a funny picture or a beautiful photo of flowers or scenes.

Now I'm no expert in doing FB Live, but I thought it was important to share how NOT to do FB Live since as a newbie I experienced a lot of things. (You'll notice I roll my eyes in the video when I say " as an expert". I hope you get that joke!) With this video, I hope to help other newbies ease into this new age and get comfy with it.

Replaying the recording of the FB Live video on social media after it's all done is another perk. AND you can still interact with folks who leave comments on the page, but it's not in real time.

So I decided to share Tips on How NOT to Do FB Live with you, my readers. Feedback is welcome either here or on the FB page. And laughter is encouraged! One cannot take doing FB Live seriously.  Oh no, as you will see when watching this video.

Speaking of  scary things like making FB Live videos,
how about a scary story with a shadow man and murder in a funeral home???

This reader thinks Deadly Undertaking is a real treat to read.

"Needless to say, Deadly Undertaking was a major page-burner. I really did read all night and miss an appointment the next day. Well-drawn characters, suspense, humor (fortunately, my neighbors are either night owls or hard of hearing because I laugh loudly) combined with good editing—I was in heaven!" Using Videos as a Marketing Tool

Today I am stepping out and facing my insecurity head-on. After listening to marketing gurus expounding about using videos to engage an audience on websites, I decided to dip my toe into the video pond and create one to share here with supportive friends in the IWSG.

I know there is so much more to learn about lighting, camera, audio, etc., but  I figure if I wait to learn everything, I will never try making a video. So I apologize for the video's weaknesses before you even view my fledgling piece.?\

Why Create a Video on YouTube?
1. Studies show that visitors to your sites will stay longer and peruse what you have to offer if videos are available.

2, YouTube is now the second largest search engine on the Internet which is another reason to share videos on YouTube. Because it is part of the Google family, you are likely to have your site show up on topics users are searching for.

3. A video is wonderful way for people to get to know you and like you. Afterall, the three things you need to build relationships and sell products (books) online are for folks to know, like, and trust you.

4. Linking the YouTube account to your G+ page gives you more exposure, and you are more likely to rate higher on Google searches since you are part of the Google family.

5. Actually I had fun making the video and laughing at myself. Do I really look and sound like that? LOL..I guess so.

So, grab the popcorn, settle back in your desk chair, and be ready for my debut!!

Curtain going up--

Meet J.Q. Rose, How to Make Welcome Videos on You Tube

Hello and welcome. Today we're talkng videos. Have you made one? Have you appeared in one?

Everything I read about blogging, Facebook, G+ states that images are important to reaching and keeping readers on your site. Videos engage the readers the most.

So I have been playing around with videos. It is a learning process, frustrating at times, but challenging and rewarding (when it's finished.)

My latest adventure into video making was creating a welcome video on my You Tube channel. Lou Bortone is the wizard on video marketing. His webinar inspired me to make the video. Alright I cannot blame him if it comes out pretty ugly, but at the same time, I will not give him credit if it's fantasic. It's all on me.

Take a peek at what I came up with as a welcome video. It's okay to laugh and guffaw at it since I can't see or hear you. LOL...What do you think? Could you do it? Below the video I'll explain what Lou taught me to do to make your own for Youtube.

Sorry, no popcorn or red licorice served with this 48 second gem.

Meet J.Q. Rose--Hybrid Author
After many takes, I finally settled on this one, however it wasn't even the way I'd practiced! And I was so intent, I forgot to put my glasses back on.

The interesting note about the welcome video is that the video only plays to visitors who are not subscribers. Once you subscribe, you  don't see the welcome video again. Pretty clever, eh?

How to Make a Welcome Video

This is so easy because you make the video right on your Youtube channel with the webcam and microphone on your computer/laptop/iPhone etc. Record your short message to your visitors and it is easy to record over and over till you get what you want. When you are satisfied with your video, click UPLOAD and Youtube will take it and put it right on your channel for you. Easy-peasy.

1. Go to your Youtube channel--Here's my page. I still have to figure out how to add the channel art.
                                                                                                                            !!!

2. Notice the UPLOAD box in the upper right-hand corner. Click it.

3. This screen will appear. Look at the right side-bar under CREATE VIDEOS. Click on the Webcam Capture Record button.

4. This screen will open. Be sure your webcam is uncovered. (We tape a piece of paper across our camera eye when we are not using it so noone can hack into it and take photos of us or our room.) Click  start recording under the screen,  and go for it. When finished, hit play to play it back to review it for sound, lighting, and clarity. If you don't like it, record again. I used a head set with a microphone for my recording because my microphone didn't pick up my voice well enough from the distance where I sat. (I think farther away from the camera makes wrinkles less visible!!!)

5. Upload the video and you will be ready to welcome visitors.

So will you try it? If you have questions after playing with this, please ask.

Thanks for being guinea pigs for all my crazy attempts at learning about making videos. I figure it's not perfect, but it's like writing a story, you can't fix a blank page. You have to start somewhere.

Thanks for stopping. Oh, and if you wish, please visit my Youtube channel and peek around at my book trailers and some other video "experiments." Subscribe to the channel if you want to be updated on more of my cinematic wonders.

Find me on You Tube-- Search J.Q. Rose and all my videos will pop up.
