Those who have been through the fire can offer assistance and guidance. It’s a safe haven for insecure writers of all kinds!" You're invited to become a member of this supportive group.

The group blogs the first Wednesday of every month The list of bloggers is always available so you can hop around to the author blogs filled with humor, advice, and thought-provoking topics on writing and publishing. You can find the list of participants at Alex's IWSG page. I hope you'll take some time to visit the diverse list of bloggers.

IWSG Question for the Month
Did you ever say “I quit”? If so, what happened to make you come back to writing?
Yes, I said "QUIT." Probably more than once. The last time I decided to give up on writing, I was so sad, my heart hurt. I was frustrated and angry with my work. Then I discovered Natalie Goldberg's book, Writing Down the Bones. Her words inspired me to pick up a pen and start again.

I have included some of her quotes from the book. I hope they'll help any writers who are struggling and wondering why they should keep going. Yes, you CAN do it!

Hi Pat. Awesome is a great way to describe her book. I have it on Kindle now and will read through and highlight the passages that speak to me...again. Thanks for visiting.

I like the idea of writing fulfilling a function. I also think of it as making the most of a gift we've been given. In that context, it really doesn't matter what comes of the writing; it's the act of expression that makes it worthwhile. (Remind me of that from time to time as I wait to hear from those agents who seemed so interested in my manuscript three months ago).

Love Natalie Goldberg's book! And the quote about being free means knowing who you are and doing what you're meant to be doing is excellent.

Thanks for the hugs, Juneta!!

Nan, I like thinking of writing as a gift and so we have the responsibility to use it to express ourselves to enrich others' lives.
Your line is full of wisdom--"it's the act of expression that makes it worthwhile." Yes, we all need to remember that!

Your graphics (and the quotes) are lovely. I'm so glad you found a book that spoke to you and helped you get back to writing.

I've heard of the book Writing Down the Bones, JQ, but I've never read it. I will look out for it. I loved your quotes and images from Canva. I'm glad you went back to your writing. Thanks for the inspiring post!

I like Canva. It's super easy, cheap and works great in a pinch for a variety of projects.

My favourite "inspirational" writing book is "Writing as a Way of Healing" by Louise DeSalvo. I'm not usually into self-help and that type of book, but I found it really helped ground and focus me.

Great quotes here, JQ. And yes, don't you think, everyone has almost quite and several times? This is a tough business. Not for the faint of heart. I'm so glad I didn't, but that option always lurks in the back of my head. A quote I saw once and failed to get down the name of the author said something like: No one can tell your story in exactly the same way you can tell your story. That's not a good paraphrase. They said something like : no one can brng out the words from you soul in exactly the same way. But you get the point. We all have something to say in our own way. Aren't we lucky. I shared. :)

Diane, thank you. I wish I could remember how I came upon the book. But I needed it at that time.

Helena, I hope you do get a chance to take a peek at the book. Some chapters spoke to me more than others.

CD--All very good reasons to use Canva. Thanks for recommending the writing book. I'll look it up.

Marsha--Exactly. You are the author of your own story and noone can tell it like you. The best reason to write your life story/memoir.
