❓❓❓❓

August 4 question - What is your favorite writing craft book? Think of a book that every time you read it you learn something or you are inspired to write or try the new technique. And why? At this point in my writing career, I am interested in telling life stories. I have taught life storytelling classes on and off for 20 years, so I am reading a lot of books about writing memoir and life stories. One of the best, easiest to read and follow, is How to Write Your Own Life Story by Lois Daniel. She starts out with 10 tips to make writing your story easy and effective, then throws out topics to write about with examples from her students and her stories. She includes researching for the facts, revising, and publishing. So much inspiration to keep writing and learning in the pages of this book. I recommend it whether you are in the beginning, middle or end phases of writing life stories.

Girls Succeed! Stories Behind the Careers of Successful Women
Non-fiction biographies of 16 contemporary role models for girls 10+ years old

UPDATE: I have been insecure about creating a paperback book through amazon, but today I am doing a happy dance as I write this!! Yes, it is difficult to type and dance at the same time.

You may be sick of hearing about my book for middle-grade girls, Girls Succeed! Stories Behind the Careers of Successful Women. After all, the first edition came out in 2010 as an eBook. Needless to say, it was ahead of its time. The first eBook didn't have active links. Eventually, the hyperlinks came along adding a cool feature to the book for readers. But, not many folks knew about eBooks, and they were not interested in purchasing eBooks. Now kids are online all the time. It's just part of their everyday lives, thanks to Covid, and video games.

Meet these contemporary role models in
Girls Succeed! a book to empower middle-grade girls

TODAY! Girls Succeed! is now available in a new, updated and revised edition, including new content! AND it is now in print! Yes, that eliminates the interactive attraction, but my 12-year-old granddaughter wanted the book in print. So, I gave in.

NOW! The eBook and Paperback to inspire girls to dream big are ready for girls 10+ and older.

EVEN BETTER! During this launch period, the eBook is only 99 cents!
Click here to download it from your favorite online bookseller.

Click here to order the paperback for the girl in your life.

I am no longer insecure about publishing a paperback with images. Thank you for indulging me through this rant about the books.

Have you published a paperback via amazon? Who do you use for paperbacks if not amazon? Please leave a comment below. Thank you.

So glad you're not insecure about having your book in paperback version. Congrats on getting it in that version. And it's great that you found a great craft book that helped with your memoir.

Hi JQ,
Yeah! Happy that you succeeded. That is one of the things I need to learn how to do.
All the best.

Congratulations, Janet. I'm thrilled for you. Nothing quite as nice as the joy of holding your book.

Congratulations, JQ! I find it difficult to read books online, so a paperback is great news!

Hi JQ,
As I visualize you doing the happy dance, I see you're talking to your iPhone and using the voice to text feature.
There are a couple of things that caught my eye: 1) interactive eBooks. I've always wondered if hyperlinks could be embedded. That feature really enhances the reading experience
2) How to Write Your Own Life Story. When we lived on our sailboat in Mexico I had lots to say. We are still in Mexico and recently moved on land and living in a “modern” condo with three layers of security. Condo life is kinda plain potatoes...yet, maybe some folks would be interested in getting a glimpse of a retired couple living in Mexico.
Thank you for your interview with Judy Sheer. I'm reading her first memoir, The Road Home. It is a delight and I'm fascinated with father's journey.

I heard that happy dance! Congrats. It always feels great when I learn a new skill. Just grabbed my copy of Girls Succeed. Looking forward to reading it.

There is a learning curve. I think I need to do it more often, but writing a book takes time. And things change so quickly. Thanks, Pat.

Thanks!! Good news indeed!

J.Q. Rose said...

That is so true. Such a different feeling between publishing an eBook and a paperback. The print seems to be more real?

J.Q. Rose said...

Thank you. Oh my, yes!! The image of the girls on the paperback book is huge! I guess I designed it to show up on the little thumbnail in the online bookstores. So maybe I should have calmed it down for the physical book.

J.Q. Rose said...

Thank you and thanks for confirming that it's important to have both. It was worth the struggle.

J.Q. Rose said...

Thanks for giving me such a good reason to get that paperback out!

Hi Lynn.
1--I love the interactive eBook. A video of a horse and rider performing in a dressage competition really gives the reader a chance to understand what dressage is, so much better than explaining it on the page.
2--.I think many folks would be interested in your life in Mexico. Many possible scenes to evoke with great imagery and I'm sure lots of emotions involved when living in a different country. Please keep writing.
Glad you are enjoying Judy's story. It's in my Kindle!

J.Q. Rose said...

Thanks so much for purchasing GS! I'm dancing again. Do you hear the music??

Hey, JQ. Love the book. I got it for my granddaughters. You did a super job. Congrats! You're making a difference in kids lives.:)
