Tarpon Springs rings a lot of bells for me. I once visited the island of Chalki where these sponge drivers came from The story behind their migration is fascinating. I even hiked their one road (it's a very small island). It's called Tarpon Springs Road because the sponge divers sent the money home to build it.
Thanks for the interesting information about the divers sending their money home. I'd love to visit the island. The interpreter on the boat tour said they had 500 divers come from Greece. It made Tarpon Springs have the most Greek residents in the US at that time!
