How to Add A+ Content to Your KDP Books, Happy Valentine's Day #selfpublishing #A+ Content

Hello and welcome to the second posting in the new series on this blog,

Tips and Topics for Writers.

Tips and Topics for Writers

Today's topic for writers is Adding A+ Content to your KDP books. This topic is for Indie authors and publishers because only publishers can add this content to your book description page. If you are with a small press or a huge, traditional publisher, you cannot add A+ content.

Amazon's definition of A+ Content Is:
"A+ Content allows you to add images, text, and comparison tables to your Amazon detail page to engage readers and give them more information as they consider buying your book. Add A+ Content to your detail page to make your book stand out, connect readers with your books, and share more about your author story."

Girls Succeed: Stories Behind the Careers of Successful Women
by J.Q. Rose

Below is one of the modules I added to my Girls Succeed page on amazon. I wanted to do this so badly because the book is about sixteen role models for MG girls. I never felt I could fully explain the book's premise in my book description unless I made it a long, long, boring essay! With one collage I can show the real women who generously share their stories of success to inspire girls to dream their big dreams and make them come true.

What NOT to do in A+ Content

This page is gold for you. The gray boxes explain the guidelines, how to create the content and wonderful, inspiring examples of what can be created on your page.

The guidelines are clear on what you are allowed to do. Find them under content restrictions in the link on the first gray box. The four main reasons for amazon rejecting your content are

  • Pricing or promotional details. Absolutely no promotions are allowed such as a 99-cent sale. No customer reviews are permitted.
  • Time-sensitive information. No phrases such as "on sale now, the best yet, new." And no references to holidays. The info has to be evergreen--timeless.
  • Publication quotes. Quotes should only be from well-known publications or public figures with attribution to the publication or author. No reviews from readers.

Creating Images--Please click here to check out how to create an image acceptable for A+ Content and print books in last month's Tips and Topics post on this blog.

IHow Do You Create Content Amazon will Accept?

The third gray box in the photo offers examples for you so you can decide how you want your content to look. Module layouts allow you to easily upload your images and write the text or copy/paste the text on the page. Reading amazon's information about this is much more confusing than actually doing it.

How to Find the Module Layouts
Once you have an idea of what you would like to have to attract readers visually and through well-written copy, go to your KDP account page, click Marketing at the top of the page, scroll down to A+ Content, under "Choose a marketplace", then click on Manage A+ Content.

You will need your ASIN for Amazon to find your book. Click the box below that--I missed it the first few times I attempted to do this. Then click on add modules and you will be able to select and fill in with your image(s) and text.

Submit. Amazon will check it out and tell you it will take up to 8 days to be notified. I submitted mine on a Thursday morning about 11 a.m. and was notified it was accepted at 8 a.m. on Friday!

Click here to go to the Girls Succeed page on amazon to see how the layouts look now. You will have to scroll all the way down to the section From the Publisher.

After watching YouTube videos by New Shelves, I felt all the worry was unnecessary. They explained how to create the content so well.

As you know, Amazon is strict when publishing our books. A+ content pages are the same.

I hope the information about A+ Content is helpful. Don't be overwhelmed with it. I discovered it was easier doing it than reading about it!!

Great! I think they really catch a reader's eye. I just wonder how many folks scroll all the way down the page to see the From the Publisher modules. Thank you for stopping in!
