Hello and welcome to  the IWSG blog hop.

Using Videos as a Marketing Tool

Today I am stepping out and facing my insecurity head-on. After listening to marketing gurus expounding about using videos to engage an audience on websites, I decided to dip my toe into the video pond and create one to share here with supportive friends in the IWSG.

I know there is so much more to learn about lighting, camera, audio, etc., but  I figure if I wait to learn everything, I will never try making a video. So I apologize for the video's weaknesses before you even view my fledgling piece.?\

Why Create a Video on YouTube?
1. Studies show that visitors to your sites will stay longer and peruse what you have to offer if videos are available.

2, YouTube is now the second largest search engine on the Internet which is another reason to share videos on YouTube. Because it is part of the Google family, you are likely to have your site show up on topics users are searching for.

3. A video is wonderful way for people to get to know you and like you. Afterall, the three things you need to build relationships and sell products (books) online are for folks to know, like, and trust you.

4. Linking the YouTube account to your G+ page gives you more exposure, and you are more likely to rate higher on Google searches since you are part of the Google family.

5. Actually I had fun making the video and laughing at myself. Do I really look and sound like that? LOL..I guess so.

So, grab the popcorn, settle back in your desk chair, and be ready for my debut!!

Curtain going up--

I've never used a video for marketing but I hope to when my first print novel comes out.

Congrats on doing your first video!

That was great!
Your voice sounds good, too, very kind and smooth. :)

IWSG #119 until Alex culls the list again.

Thanks, Anna.

Chrys, I hope you'll experiment with video. My next insecurity to overcome is using Google Hangouts to interview authors. Nail-biting time.

Thank you, Melissa. Kind and smooth. I like that. Made me smile.

You did a fine job! I don't think I could do a video of me, but maybe it's time to post my book trailers again.

You're adorable! I loved how you were so honest and humble, not to mention brave. I had no idea vids were so popular. I didn't even know YouTube belonged to Google. Can you imagine if the big power companies, like Facebook, Google, and Amazon got in a fight? It'd be like Godzilla vs Mothra vs Megalodon. Yikes! Thanks for all the tips. I've wanted to do audios for my works, but have no webcam and no ability to distribute and get paid. Maybe things will change...

Thank you so much for posting this. Your posting revealed to me that I need to spread my wings once again and learn and implement something new.

Great job, Lady.

You did great! I don't even have a camera to make a video, so you're already way ahead of me.

J.Q. Rose said...

Yes, Alex. Book trailers count! Thanks.

Thanks for subscribing, Doreen. Yay! I'll find you on YouTube.

Lexa dn Bish, you probably have a webcam and microphone on your laptop or smartphone. I used the webcame on my laptop, but it doesn't make a very clear picture, or maybe it was the lighting. I don't know. I'll play with it.

Lexa, I'm glad you enjoyed the tips. I like Lou Bortone for giving lots of tips on video making and webinars. He also offers classes if you want to get real serious.

Hi Pat, Spread your wings for sure. I love trying out new things in marketing. But one never knows what may work. Have fun with it. Thank you for stopping by.

I need to make a video of me during one of my speaking engagements. We've tried, but the picture quality was so bad, I couldn't use it.

My stars, J.Q. I'm so impressed! You are brave. Thanks for urging us to try something new. (Not my strong point at all!)
Critque wise (as a former theatre arts teacher), I've gotta say, well done. You have the best voice, low modulated, with good inflection, and not too fast. Next time, smile a bit more and raise your gaze. I wasn't quite getting an eye to eye look. (Maybe that's not possible with this technology. I'm clueless.) But clearly I've gotta gut up and jump in. Oh, and as much as you want to move your body for communicating (that's something I do too), you have to be more still for the camera. But again, Kudos. I may have to email you directly for directions. :) I'll share this, too.

Marsha, Thanks for the tips! Just what I was looking for. Thanks for sharing!!

Hi Diane. Technology can be a huge hurdle in making a video. I am not pleased with the picture quality in this video at all. If I get serious, I'll need to invest in a good camera I hope you have success recording your next speaking engagement. Let me know, so I can watch it!
